Timely Heat Pump Services You Can Count On Near You

The mild winters and hot summers in Fort Myers and surrounding areas are ideal for the two-in-one solution of a heat pump. As an energy-efficient alternative to separate heating and cooling units, this environmentally-friendly innovation saves money and provides year-round comfort. Whether you’re wondering if a heat pump is right for you, looking for seasonal maintenance or facing issues, the professionals from J&D Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc. are here to help.

Some of the most common heat pump problems and their solutions include:

  • Insufficient heat: The difficulty in extracting heat from extremely cold outdoor environments may lead to longer running times. While heat pumps do not generate the intensity of heat of a furnace, the heat is typically distributed more consistently throughout the home. Unusually low temperatures may require a supplemental heating option. If the heat pump fails to keep up with demand, reach out to J&D Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc. for assistance.
  • Iced over outdoor unit: If the outdoor condensing unit ices up, airflow becomes restricted. Light ice typically goes away on its own quite quickly. Ice that remains for a lengthy period of time is an issue that needs to be addressed. Running the defrost cycle usually solves it. It should turn on automatically, reversing the heat pump into A/C mode to provide heat to the outdoor unit and run for ten to fifteen minutes. If the defrost cycle fails to thaw the iced heat pump, check the air filter and make sure there’s no debris near the unit. If these solutions aren’t sufficient, contact J&D Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc. right away.
  • Constantly running: This can be caused by cold air entering the house. Check that doors and windows are closed tightly and look for leaks around their edges. You may need to insulate (especially the attic), caulk or replace weatherstripping. New windows are an investment that tends to pay for themselves in energy savings. Tightening up the home reduces the workload for the heat pump.
  • Cold air or no air: Check that vents are open to allow proper airflow. It’s not recommended to close vents and registers to restrict heat to specific areas due to the creation of unwanted pressure that leads to duct leaks, system malfunction and various issues. Leave vents and registers open year-round. Cold air from the vents could be the heat pump in defrost mode and is normal. The cycle should last 10 to 15 minutes.
